County 4-H members start off March Madness

With March Madness upon us, basketball is on almost everyone’s mind.  But whether you like to play it, watch it, or even if you’re not athletically minded the annual 4-H County Basketball Tournament provided much entertainment for all.  It was hosted by the Greenbrier 4-H Club and was held Sunday, March 9, at the Scranton Community Center.

“Generally when you watch basketball it’s you may get frustrated with the egos on the court.  Everyone’s shooting all the time and you always hear who scored the most points.  But in the 4-H tournament credit is given to those who give others a chance to try their skill at making a basket.  And satisfaction is gained by having a chance to have the basketball and try for a shot, whether making it or not,” said Linda Hedges.

“These are 4-H life skills that Randy (Hedges) and I are so proud of the Greene County 4-Hers for attaining.  It’s great when youth can be the ones behind the scenes setting up the play and making a pass to someone else to get a chance to make a basket that they may never do in the rest of their life.  That is character building for both youth involved, and also much fun to watch” Hedges said.

Participating in the tournament this year were  Washington Winners, Junction Jets, Hardin Happy Hustlers, Cedar Highland, Junction Food Producers, Raccoon River Rockets, and two Greenbrier teams.
